Dan Watkins to Head BNY Mellon Markets Team in EMEA

Richard Gill Retires After 20 Years of Distinguished Service

Dan Watkins has been appointed Head of BNY Mellon Markets in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). In this role, he will oversee the growth of BNY Mellon Markets as it responds to increased client demand in the face of ongoing regulatory and market structure changes. He succeeds Richard Gill, who announced his retirement earlier this year.

Dan will play a central role in further optimising the Markets solution set to meet the evolving needs of clients,” said Michelle Neal, President of BNY Mellon Markets. “His diverse experience and deep understanding of the pressures and opportunities facing all market participants will be particularly valuable as we intensify our client focus.”

Watkins has significant industry experience, ranging from senior roles at JPMorgan and Jardine Fleming to co-founding investment management fintech, LatentZero. Watkins, who is based in London, will report to Michelle Neal, with regional accountability to Michael Cole-Fontayn, BNY Mellon’s EMEA Chairman.

We would like to thank Richard for his stellar contribution to BNY Mellon over the last 20 years,” said Cole-Fontayn. “Under his leadership our EMEA Markets business has garnered a reputation for exceptional client quality and performance.”

As well as his notable achievements at BNY Mellon, Gill has served on the Bank of England’s Foreign Exchange Joint Standing Committee since 2007 and also the Advisory Council of the Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities Markets Standards Board (FMSB) since 2015.

Watkins will work alongside Gill until the end of March to ensure a smooth transition. The formal appointment of Watkins is subject to regulatory approval under the UK Senior Managers and Certification Regime.
