Jake Summerfield Comments on the Wonga Data Breach

Jake Summerfield, Managing Director, The Network Group Events, comments on the Wonga data breach:

Unfortunately attacks such as this data breach at Wonga are becoming an all too common occurrence, particularly in the financial services industry which has seen a spate of hackings of late. Cyber-criminals are clearly scaling up their activity in the sector, and this significant breach clearly shows the risk that firms in the industry face from the cyber-threat.

The good news is that CISOs are prioritising measures to combat the threat of a data breach. More than half (54%) of CISOs attending the Financial Services Information Security Network said they were investing in data security and integrity, with 57% of that group focusing on data loss or data theft prevention measures.

We hope that the news about Wonga serves as a wake-up call for other lenders, banks and building societies to now take the cyber-threat seriously, listen to their information security experts and invest in network security measures to keep their customers’ data safe.”
